Thomas Swanger was 26 years old on arrival in VDL. Transported for Stealing the monies and goods to the value of £5 from Mrssrs William Wilcox, Richard Heffer and Henry Ford, and 3 other counts of Simple Larceny. Thomas was 5'6" tall could read and write, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. 20/4/1853: Steerage passenger per Yarra Yarra, Launceston to Melbourne. Free by servitude. 18/10/1858: Ballarat. Found guilty of stealing sheep and sentenced to 5 years, released in February 1861. 15/9/1862: Melbourne, Guilty of uttering a forgery and sentenced to 4 years, released in May 1864. Married Amy Ann Luckwell in England and had a daughter Emily Swanger 18/3/1838. 7/3/1855: Married Sarah Myers in St John's Church Melbourne. 3 children. 9/4/1899: Died in Port Melbourne and is buried at the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton North, Melbourne.
I am not sure, but this may be Thomas Stranger. Born 3 Mar 1820 in Devon England. Died 24 Nov 1904 in East Brunswick, Melbourne. Married Margaret Branche in 1839 in Devon? Could he have been deported to Hobart and later his wife came out to join him?
