Thomas Tailby was transported on the Royal Admiral, departing 30th May 1792 and arriving 7th Oct 1792 with 349 passengers.
The Royal Admiral was built at Lynn in 1828. Convicts were transported to New South Wales on the Royal Admiral in 1830, 1833, 1835 and to Van Diemen's Land in 1842. 1833 - Ship; Royal Admiral. Commenced fitting as a Convict Transport at Deptford on the 29 March. Surgeon Superintendent [Andrew Henderson] joined on the 3rd April. Guard embarked on the 13th. Sailed on the 17th and anchored in Kingston Barbour near Dublin on the 9th May. 220 convicts embarked on the 16 May 1833 and the ship sailed from Dublin Bay for Sydney on the 4th June and arrived there on the 20 October. Originally embarked with 221 convicts, 5 Died at sea, 1 was Relanded. 11 sick on shore, The convicts were described as 220 such wretchedly debilitated creatures ... In the colony, Thomas married Elizabeth Smith (Convict, 1800, "Speedy"). The couple married 16th February 1807. Thomas Tillbey of the parish of St John Parramatta and Eliz Smith of ditto were married in this church by banns this sixteenth day of February in the year one thousand eight hundred and seven by me Henry Fulton. Both Thomas and Elizabeth made their X marks in the register in the presence of E, Morris who signed the register and Sarah Sandall who made her X mark. The couple had two children, Thomas however died in 1823. In 1824, Elizabeth remarried to one John Hawkins (Convict, 1806, "Fortune"). In the 1825 Census we find... Smith, Elizabeth, free by servitude, Speedy, 1800, 7 years, widow, Richmond. Tailby, Thomas, free by servitude, Royal Admiral, 1800, 7 years, DEAD 18th May 1823 Richmond. Tailby, Thomas, 16, born in the colony, employed by John Bowman, Richmond.
