THIS MAN WAS NOT ON THE CONVICT SHIP ELIZA , ARRIVING 1832. HE ARRIVED IN 1833, AS AN IMMIGRANT ON THE SHIP ELIZA.

Abraham THOMPSON came to Australia (New South Wales) as a free immigrant on the ship Eliza 1833. He was subsequently charged and convicted at Berrima, NSW in 1844 for uttering a forged note. His defence was that he did not know it to be forged. Life sentence, commuted to 7 yrs. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Louisa' arriving 1 July 1844. 1844: Aged 29 yrs; single man; labourer and stone maker; 5'7 1/4" height; Protestant; can read & write; fresh complexion; reddish hair; light blue eyes. Native place of birth: Kings County, Ireland. Mother: Grace BURR (ref. convict indent) Sister: Margaret Sharpe Burr (at native place) VDL: 1 year Probation Period. Station Gang - Jerricho, VDL. 6 June 1848: Ticket of Leave granted. 6 May 1851: Free Certificate issued. (ref. Govt Gazette Cornwall Chronicle & Conduct Record) 31 May 1851: Departure from VDL to Melbourne, Victoria per the ship 'Raven'. Free by servitude.
