Catharine THOMPSON (also k/a Catherine DONALDSON), proper name stated to be Catherine CASEY was convicted at Durham on 1 April 1846 for stealing silk handkerchiefs. Previous conviction. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Elizabeth & Henry' 1846/47. Aged 24 yrs; single woman; 4'10 1/2" height; housemaid; Roman Catholic; can read & write. Native place of birth: Co. Sligo, Ireland. Father: Thomas (ref. Convict Indent record) Mother: Nancy Sisters: Margaret & Elizabeth VDL: 6 mth Probation Period. 21 Jan 1850: Application for permission to marry Joseph MAY (transported per 'Marquis de Hansting). Approved. 11 March 1850: Marriage to Joseph MAY at Richmond, Tasmania. (ref. 37/1/9 no 868) 30 April 1850: Ticket of Leave granted. 5 Oct 1852: Absconded. 6 mths hard labour. 9 Nov 1852: Ticket of Leave revoked. 17 March 1857: Free Certificate issued. 5 Feb 1875: at Richmond, Tasmania - idle & disorderly. Now under name "Dixon" or "Dickson". 2 May 1876: idle and disorderly. 12 Dec 1878: at Richmond. Vagrancy.
