Convict Notes

Elizabeth from Manchester, had stolen a quantity of silk handkerchiefs and a piece of muslin. Whilst at Lancaster Castle Elizabeth along with Mary Peach and Ellen Storrs were given £2 13 shillings for clothing for the journey before they were taken to Spithead to board the ship. By 1806 Elizabeth was mustered- she held a ticket of leave and was in the service of a Thomas or John Mitchell. There was a John Mitchell in the Sydney Loyal Association who advertised he was leaving the colony along with Elizabeth Thompson in August 1807 on the Sydney Cove. However, if this was our Elizabeth, which is likely, we know little else about her time in New South Wales as she died, free, and was buried in the Old Sydney Burial Ground on the 23rd April 1809.
