James Thompson was convicted at a Hobart (VDL) Court Martial on 25/09/1847 for desertion from army. Absent from 96th Regiment. Tried several times before. 7yr sentence. Native Place: Liverpool, England. Protestant; read & write; single; previously a labourer; 24yrs of age; 5'6 1/4"; fresh complexion; dk brown hair; dk blue eyes; tatoos. Station Gang: Hobart Gaol. No. 80054. Assignments at New Town, Elizabeth St. Hobart, Richmond, Browns River, New Norfolk & Douglas River. Punishment included 40days solitary, 150 lashes and 6mths imprisonment. Ticket of Leave 03/04/1854 Free Certificate 28/09/1854
