ADM 101/254/1C Medical journal of the Duchess of Northumberland, convict ship from 16 November 1852 to 27 April 1853 by Charles Smith, Surgeon Superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in the convict service. Folios 2-3: case no 1, Mary A Thomson, aged 30, Convict; taken ill at the Downs; sick or hurt, pleuritis, had also suffered from severe attacks of chronic rheumatism and habitually dyspeptic and every now and then profused whitish discharges from the vagina; put on sick list, 27 November 1852, discharged 6 December 1852 cured.

Mary Ann Thompson was convicted, with others, for robbery at York on 13/12/1851. 10yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Duchess of Northumberland', arriving 21/4/1853. Married woman, 3 children; Protestant; read & write; housemaid; aged 32yrs; 5'2". Ship Surgeon's Report: Good, very industrious. Assignments in Colony. Ticket of Leave 21/10/56 but later revoked. Restored 9/2/1858. Conditional Pardon 14/06/1859. Record for a child admitted to Queens Orphan School: Joseph Thompson aged 3yrs. Discharged 8/6/1868 to John Warner, Cullenswood.
