On 9 January 1833 James Thomson or Smart appeared at Edinburgh High Court of Justiciary and 'pled guilty' to breaking into a cabin of ship 'Tyne of Leith' in Leith Harbour and stealing articles (not disclosed). He had previous convictions - see Scotsman 9 January 1833 p 3 on 'High Court of Justiciary.
