10/7/1840 Leicester Journal Leicestershire, England: LEICESTERSHIRE QUARTER SESSIONS John Thornberry, 20, Thomas Wilson, 19, and Michael Crawley, 25, were charged with stealing a silver watch, at Cotesbatch, on the 24th of April, the property of William Marshall. The prisoners were part of a gang who were notorious for 'thimble rigging' and other practices at fairs, to take in the unwary. Wilson was acquitted, as he was thought not to be privy to the robbery. The two other prisoners were sentenced to be transported for seven years each. Michael Crawley arrived VDL per 'Asia' 1841. No ship found for Thomas Wilson. No records of Thomas Thornberry found in VDL or NSW.
