Old Bailey: EDWARD THORNETT, Breaking Peace > wounding, 3rd April 1837. 916. EDWARD THORNETT was indicted for feloniously assaulting William Grant Liddaman, on the 19th of June at Wilsden, putting him in fear, and taking from his person, and against his will, 1 shilling, 1 sixpence, I and 7 fourpenny-pieces; his monies. Prisoner's Defence. I never saw this man in all my life, and was not near the place at the time. GUILTY— DEATH. Aged 21. 1842: There is a marriage listed on the NSW BDM of a Edward Thornett marrying Bridget McCall (who was transported on the Diamond 1838) no children listed. Bridget Thornett died at Queanbeyan - no given date, but was buried on the 4/2/1847 in the Catholic Section at the Queanbeyan cemetery in an unmarked grave, aged 34. 1846: TOL Queanbeyan. 31/3/1849 The Goulburn Herald: LARCENY. Edward Thornett, (on bail), committed by the Queanbeyan Bench, for stealing a coat, surrendered himself for trial. The Crown Prosecutor moved that the recognizance of Thomas Houston, a material witness in this case be estreated, he having faild to appear. Granted. The Court admitted the prisoner to bail on his own recognizance to appear at the next Court of Quarter Session. Found not guilty - reported in the Sydney Morning Herald 23/6/1849. 8/9/1849 The Goulburn Herald: Found guilty of the rape of Margaret Ivers - sentenced to death. 27/10/1849: Maitland mercury: Commutation of Sentence. - Edward Thornett, who was convicted of rape and sentenced to be hanged, at the late Goulburn Assizes, has had his sentence commuted to fifteen years' hard labour on the roads or public works; the first three years in irons. 17/11/1849: TOL cancelled for rape - Goulburn Circuit Court. 1/2/1851: CP 1856: TOL Patrick Plains: 1856: NSW BDM - marriage listed for Edward Thornett to Sarah Yardley in the Hunter/Maitland district, C of E. No children listed. 1857: TOL Bathurst. 27/3/1858 Bathurst Free Press: Edward Thornett, charged with horse-stealing, was remanded until the 26th inst. 1859: TOL Yass No death date found.
