James Thorpe was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 31st Dec 1813 and arriving 28th Jul 1814 with 204 passengers.
Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

No ship found for Thomas Boardinan. ________________________________________ James Thorpe was listed as 59 years old on arrival. Native Place: Manchester. Occupation: Cotton carder/shoemaker. James was 5'8¾"tall, fair complexion, grey hair and eyes. Colonial Secretary Index: THORPE, James. Per "Surrey", 1814 1818 Dec 7: Shoemaker; assigned to Simeon Lord. Petition for mitigation of sentence (Fiche 3190; 4/1856 p.268) 1824 Jul 31: Re his admission to the General Hospital (Reel 6013; 4/3512 p.115) 6/10/1825: TOL Sydney - Delivered to his son John Thorp/e by the same ship. 19/10/1828: Burial date - James Thorpe died, aged 77, and was buried at St. James, Sydney.
