John TIERNEY was convict at a Court Martial, Meerut, East Indies on 15 Oct 1835 for desertion from the Army. Absent for several days from his Regiment. Had served 3 mths solitary confinement. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship "Boadicea" 1836. (Record also states ship "Healy" 1824 but no other details.) Single man. Colony of VDL: Assigned to various work duties. 9 Feb 1837: Absent without leave and trespassing. 6 weeks hard labour at a Road Party and conduct to be reported. 1837: Stealing quantity of flour. Committed for trial. Sentence extended by 2 yrs. 1838: Absconding. 75 lashes. 29 Nov 1838: Absconding. 2 yrs hard labour, at Port Arthur Penal Settlement. 13 Nov 1840: Jumped overboard the brig "Tamar", at Port Arthur.
