Thomas Townsend was listed as 25 years old on arrival in VDL. His brother Richard was convicted for the same crime and was also on board. Thomas was transported for 'stealing 9 bushels of wheat. Previous convictions: 2 months for poaching, 2 months for drunkenness. Thomas was 5'10" tall, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, small brown whiskers, grey eyes, hair mole on right side of throat, scar on joint of right hand, 2 moles on left arm near elbow, scar on palm of left hand near wrist, scar on right side of upper lip, reads, protestant. Married with 1 child, wife, Martha at Catlin, Cambridge. Father: John. 28/7/1846: TOL 10/7/1848: COF Thomas had a brother, Matthew, a publican at Digby, NSW, another brother William who was last heard of in Bendigo in the 1860's.
