James TRACEY was convicted at Queens County, Ireland on 27 June 1842 for stealing a cow. 10 yr transportation sentence. Well conducted in prison. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship "North Briton" arriving 4 April 1843. Single man; labourer; aged 19 yrs; 5'5" height, stout build; ruddy complexion, freckled; brown hair; blue eyes; tatoos; right finger crippled. Native place of birth: Queens, Ireland. Mother: Betsey (ref. confict indent) Father: X.ooley (?) Brother: William Sisters: Biddy & Catherine Colony of VDL: 30 months Probation Period Assigned to work duties 1 Dec 1845, at Launceston - disrespectrul conduct. 10 days hard labour. 10 Nov 1847: Drunk. 1 mth imprisonment with hard labour. 4 July 1848: Ticket of Leave granted. 15 Oct 1850: Conditional Pardon approved. DEPARTURE FROM VDL: 15 March 1851 - James TRACEY, departed VDL per ship "Swift" from Launceston bound for Melbourne, Victoria. Ship to Colony - "North Briton". Passenger, free by servitude status.
