Epiphany Sessions at Lewes. John Trigwell, (39) charged with stealing at Ringmer, 10 fowls and a tame rabbit, the property of Joseph Budgen.— Mr. Darby appeared for the prosecution and Mr. Cobbett for the prisoner. Joseph Budgen deposed that he missed some fowls and a rabbit the 2d November. A man named Blaber was tried and convicted on a former occasion for for participating in the offence, but Tri .... Sussex Advertiser, 27 Feb 1837. John Trigwell, for stealing at Ringmer, 2d November last, five hen fowls, five chickens, and one tame rabbit, the property of Joseph Budgen. Mr Darby conducted the prosecution. Cobbett addressed the Jury for the prisoner—Verdict, Guilty— Transported for seven years. Brighton Gazette, 2 March 1837. Trigwell appears to have had an earlier conviction: Rioters. James Blaber, 52, John Trigwell, 29, William Oliver, 38, and Joseph Ford, 27, labourers, were charged with unlawfully and tumultuously assembling, with divers other persons, at Ringmer, to oppose and obstruct Thomas Ancock Bull, relieving officer of the Chailey Union, in the execution of his duty. This case having already appeared considerable length in a former number, it is unnecessary here to repeat the evidence. The prisoners severally pleaded guilty. Mr. Bull the relieving officer of the Chailey Union having .. Sussex Advertiser, 6 July 1835. The prisoners pleaded guilty, and were sentenced as,, follows : Blaber, TrIgweil , and Olliver, to be imprisoned eight calendar month and kept to hard labour; Ford was for the term of six months and each to enter into his own recognizances of 20£ to keep the peace the twelve months.
