The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

Hulk Record HO-9-4 (2. p 22.) Received 26th May 1817. William Kimberley, age 50, Burglary, Tried Worcester 8 Mar 1817, 14 years, Transported 20 July 1817. John Troth, age 34, Burglary, Tried Worcester 8 Mar 1817, 14 years, Transported 20 July 1817. The Assizes for the County of Worcester terminated on Wednesday evening. The following are the sentences of the prisoners tried :— … John Troth and William Kimberley, for burglariously entering and robbing the house of Thomas Powell, of Upton Warren; … were capitally convicted, and received sentence of death. Of these convicts, all were reprieved before the Judges departed, with the exception of William Child, for the highway robbery, who is left for execution. … Sarah Troth, for breaking into and robbing the house of Thomas Powell, of Upton Warren ; … to be transported for seven years. Aris’s Birmingham Gazette, 24 March 1817. Sarah Troth does not appear to have been transported, she was probably his wife.
