National Archives. Criminal Petitions. HO 17/17/133 Description: Prisoner name: Henry Turley (or Henry Turly). Prisoner age: 42. Prisoner occupation: Cotton spinner with Thomas Hallsworth of Manchester [Lancashire]. Court and date of trial: Lancashire Lent Assizes, Lancaster, March 1834. Crime: Selling counterfeit coin. Initial sentence: Seven years transportation. Gaoler's report: 'Character not known, married, four children'. Annotated: Nil. 'Ordered to Justitia'. Petitioner(s): Mary Turley (or Mary Turly), the convict's wife, with three characters appended. A second application from Mary Turley. Grounds for clemency: He has a distressed wife and four small children; this was his first offence.
