Edwin Turner was convicted for stealing silver spoons & shirts etc. (Also convicted of this offence was associate Joseph Dyson - also convicted and transported to VDL on this ship). York 08/07/1835. 14 yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Lord Lyndoch' arriving 1836. Gaol Report: bad disposition and associates. Previous convictions. Hulk Report: Orderly Ship Surgeon's Report: good Single man; aged 21yrs; native place of birth - Sheffield; labourer; lt blue eyes; lt reddish hair; 5'2 1/4". Assignments in Colony. Several records of misconduct and punishments. Recorded in his favour when he gave evidence in a court case for John Gray in 1838. Assigned as a Constable. 1840: Hobart Town Police Report. Monday, June 29. Edwin Turner, a constable, was charged with clandestinely leaving the barracks last night, and sentenced to hard labour in chains for six months. 1841: at Bothwell Application for permission to marry: March 1844 to Ellen Clarkson (transported per Navarino). Approved. Reg'd 921/1844-37.
