"George Turner was born in County Kent, England about 1791to 1794 . On various documents, George’s native place is shown as Greenwich . On the August 5, 1812 he was tried at Maidstone Kent for stealing. At his trial it was stated that George was a shepherd / labourer and that he was from the Chatham Area George was sentenced to a term of life with transportation to Australia. George sailed on the convict ship, Earl of Spencer which arrived in Sydney on October 9, 1813 George was assigned to labouring duties firstly at Parramatta then at Rouse Hill An application for a ticket of leave was granted in 1818, and then shortly after George married Mary Rogers, daughter of John Rogers (dec.) and Elizabeth nee Celey On August 15, 1835, at age 41, George was granted his conditional pardon. Together George and Mary settled in the North Richmond / Kurrajong area and raised a family of seven children. George died on November 18,1872 aged 81 years and was buried at Saint Peters, Richmond."

Three men of the names of Turner, Eldridge .and Merkins were put to the bar, charged with feloniously stealing from the person John Richie, at the sum of 36£. in pocket-book. It appeared from, the testimony the witnessed that Richie was lying asleep public-house, when the prisoners came into the house, and after taking some beer, a man named Wiltshire, (not yet taken) had picked the prosecutor's pocket of his book, and had handed it to the prisoner Turner, under the table. They afterwards quitted the house, and after having travelled few pintles on the Maidstone road, they divided their booty which amounted each. A few days afterwards information was given, and two of the prisoners were arrested on Dartford Heath, and the others at a public-house, in the neighbourhood They made defence, and were found guilty, and were sentenced to transported for life. Early on Saturday morning were removed under a strong guard, from his Majesty's gaol, Maidstone, and put on board the Zealand hulk, at Sheerness, for transportation, the following male convicts, viz. - Pride, George Davis, Wm Castledon, Wm Wise, John Seabrook, Richard Wise, Wm Streeton, George Turner, Henry Eldridge, Henry Merkins, Thomas Marlow, James Egau, Wm Brigual, John Wingafe, Joseph Price, and John. Batt. Kentish Gazette, 4 Sept 1812.
