Henry TURNER was convicted at Bristol QS, on 25 Oct 1841 for stealing a pair of shoes. Gaol Report: had been convicted 10 or 12 times, for vagrancy. Aged 13yrs. Had been deserted by his parents. 7yr transportation sentence. Hulk Report: "orderly". Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Elphinstone' arriving 28 July 1842. Ship Surgeon's Report: "bad, often confined". Protestant; can read; a labourer; aged 13yrs; 4'4 1/2"; fresh complexion; light brown hair; grey eyes. Native place of birth: Cheltenham, England. Father: William, a Glover at Cheltenham. Mother: Jane TURNER at Cheltenham Brother: Frederick at Cheltenham Sister - Mary (ref. for family details, from Convict Indent records) VDL: 2 year Probation Period - at Point Puer, Reformatory for youth, near Port Arthur Penal Settlement. 10 Jan 1843: Point Puer - absent without leave. 12 stripes on the back. 1 April 1843: absent without leave. 7 days solitary confinement. 27 March 1848: sent to New Town (nr Hobart) Farm. 10 July 1848: Ticket of Leave granted. 2 Nov 1848: Charged with Burglary in the dwelling house of Wm Horton. Committed for Trial. Acquitted. 4 Dec 1848: Certificate of Freedom issued.

My great grand father, he married twice and his son became a police officer in yahoo, wa's north. never went home or contacted his parents as they had died with his siblings.
