Previous crime & sentence were incorrect. Check on Tasmanian Archives - conduct record (pg 357) for accurate details. Stephen Turner was convicted at Sussex for stealing 2 sheep. 10yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Toitoise', arriving 19/02/1842. Ship Surgeon's Report: Good. Honest. Native place of Birth: Bex Hill, Sussex. Father - Thomas. Mother - Ann. Both at native place. 4 brothers, 5 sisters. Aged 22yrs on arrival; farm labourer; Protestant; can read & write; single; fresh complexion; dk brown hair; brown eyes; stout. Assignments in Colony. 18mths Probation period. 1842: noted as orderly and good. 1842: at Mr. Orr's, Hamilton 1844: at J. Murdoch's, Green Point Clear Conduct Record Recommended for a Ticket of Leave for meritorious conduct in saving 2 men from being drowned. 1845. 08/09/1846: Ticket of Leave 22/08/1848: Condtional Pardon 01/09/1851: Free Certificate
