Norfolk Winter Assizes. House-breaking. Robert Twite, aged 21, and Mary Ann Starkey, aged 19, were charged with breaking into the shop of John Colman, draper, at Fulmodeston, on the night of the 29th of July last, and stealing therefrom 8 gown pieces, 11 cotton hand- kerchiefs, 14 pairs of stockings, 24 pairs of gloves, a quantity of thread, laces, ribbons, galloons, &c. It was broken into by a hole being made through the roof. Some of the property was found in the possession of the possession of the prisoners at a lodging-house in Sedgeford-lane, Lynn. The Jury found both prisoners Guilty, and the Learned Judge, in passing sentence, said, I have an indifferent account of your conduct in prison, and the commission of such a robbery proves that you had been previously in the habit of committing similar depredations. The sentence therefore is, that each of you be transported for the term of ten years. The Woman: Thank you, my Lord. Bury and Norwich Post, 24 Dec 1844. --------------------------------------------------- Mary Ann Storkey was sent to Van Diemen's Land on the ship Tory.
