John Vardy alias Ward was tried 1790 at Fermanagh and sentenced to seven years transportation. He arrived in the colony aboard the ship 'Queen', age given as 35. He lived with Rose Reilly (d. 1838) and died 1811. Rose (Rosanna) Reilly alias Riley was tried in 1795 and sentenced to seven years transportation. She was transported aboard the ship 'Britannia' and was described as a Catholic age 29 on arrival in the colony. She lived with John Vardy per Queen from about 1798 and James Betts of Windsor per Albermarle from about 1822. She died in 1838. They had 2 sons, John 1801-1877 and Thomas 1803 - Trial of John Vardy: By the Lord Justices of Assizes for the North west Circuit of Ulster at a general assize and general gaol delivery held at Enniskillen and in and for the said County of Fermanagh the 22nd of March, 1790. Whereas John Vardy now a prisoner in the goal of Enniskellen aforesaid was at said assize in lawful manner indicted, tried and found guilty of feloniously taking out of the dwelling house of Jane Armstrong, two gowns, value one pound; three aprons, value three shillings; two handkerchiefs, value two shillings; one shirt, value two shillings; two shifts, value two shillings,; three yards of linen, value two shillings; one blanket, value two shillings; two petticoats, value two shillings and one pair of stockings, value one shilling; goods of said Jane Armstrong. Whereupon it was awarded by the Court that the said John Vardy should be transported for seven years, pursuant to the statues. These are therefore in His Majesty's name charging and commanding the Sheriff of the County of Fermanagh in whose custody in the jayl of Enniskillen aforesaid the said John Vardy now remains to cause Execution of the said judgement to be done will all convenient speed, and for so doing this shall be a warrant date aforesaid as above. To the Sheriff of the County of FermanaghBy the Court Johnston. 1806 Census: John Vardy per Queen 1806 self employed labourer Drowned 11 Mar 1811 in the flooded Hawkesbury River at Wilberforce. John was buried at St. Matthew;s Windsor NSW Son Thomas: Confusing - 1 Thomas Vardy was around the Goulburn area and the Licensee of the Limerick Races Inn, Tuena, but there was also a Thomas Vardy around the Maitland area at the same time; I did find this on him: 1828 Census: Vardy, Thomas, 25, born in the colony, Protestant, labourer for John Cobcroft of Wilberforce. Son John Vardy: 1820: John married MARTIN, Mary. Born in the Colony; daughter of Owen Martin, deceased. Mary was 19. NSW BDM: V182023 128/1820 VERDY JOHN MARTIN MARY LD (St Marys Sydney). Note: John was listed as “VERDY”. 1822: Census: (Age 21) Verdy, John, born in the colony, landholder, Liverpool Verdy, Mary born in the colony, wife of above Verdy, Eliza 7 months born in the colony, daughter of above. 1825 Census: (Age 24) Verdy, John, born in the colony, constable, Windsor Verdy, Mary born in the colony, wife of John Verdy, Windsor Verdy, Eliza 4 born in the colony, daughter of above Verdy, Mary 2 born in the colony, daughter of above. November 1828 Census:(Age 27) Vardy, John 27 born in the colony, Catholic, constable at Airds Vardy, Mary 22 born in the colony, Catholic, 90 acres, 30 acres cleared and cultivated, 7 horses, 110 horned cattle Vardy, Eliza 6 born in the colony Vardy, Mary Ann 5 born in the colony Vardy, Catherine 3 born in the colony Vardy, Ellen 1 born in the colony. Mary died in 1839 – they had 7 children. 1840: (Age 39) Married Sarah Carroll at Campbelltown, NSW.
