Charles VAUGHAN was convicted at Cork, Ireland on 21 Sept 1849 for burglary - stealing plated candlesticks. Three previous convictions. 10yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) per the ship ‘Rodney’ arriving 12 Feb 1853.
Ship Surgeon’s Report: “good”
Aged 40yrs; single.
Had been in the 96th Regiment for 18 yrs. Now a labourer.
Native place of birth: Cork, Ireland.

VDL:
18 months Probation Period.
1854: was a Constable at the Depot, Launceston.
9 Jan 1855: Ticket of Leave granted.
1 Feb 1856: Conditional Pardon approved.

2 Jan 1862: Launceston Court - charged with setting fire to a barn. Not Guilty.

20 June 1873: Launceston Court - Larceny. 2 mths prison.

Death: Died at New Town, Hobart, Tasmania (Pauper’s Establishment) on 29th July 1889. Born Ireland.  Labourer. Age 75yrs. Cause - Senilis. (ref. 35/1/11 no. 870)
