Per "Mary Anne", 1822 1822 Jun 5 On list of convicts disembarked at Hobart from the "Mary Anne" (Reel 6009; 4/3505 p.386) --------------------------------------------------------------------- List of 45 Female convicts disembarked at Hobart Town from ship Mary Anne. Elizabeth Vaughan, tried Northumberland Assizes, 23 Aug 1821, 7 years. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Elizabeth Vaughan, girl of the town, was on the same day committed for trial at the same assizes, a charge of pocket picking; Durham County Advertiser, 2 June 1821. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Elizabeth Vaughan, aged 27, charged with having, on the of May last, feloniously stolen from the person of James Vallens, three promissory notes for the payment of £1. each. Guilty—Seven years transportation. Durham County Advertiser, 1 Sep 1821.




Elizabeth VAUGHAN was convicted at Newcastle, England midsummer 1821 for Grand Larceny. Previous offences, notorious pickpocket. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Mary Ann' arriving 1822. VDL: Assigned to work services. Ticket of Leave granted. 1824 was assigned to Mrs. Smith at Brighton (north of Hobart). One record of being absent, without leave, at night and sent to the Female Factory, Hobart.
