Crime: Robbery. Initial sentence: Death, commuted to transportation for life. Annotated (Outcome): 'Nil'. Petitioner(s): Mary Veitch, prisoner's mother; nine people of London. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): His youth; previous good character until he associated with idle and dissolute characters that led him into crime by experienced thieves; the prisoner's mother is a widow with four children who are dependent on her; if the prisoner returned to her, his mother could restore him to society and reform him from those 'wicked feelings'. Date: 1825 Held by: The National Archives, Kew. Robert Veitch was listsed as 17 years old on arrival. Place of Birth: Greece Street, Rathbone Place. Occupation: Jeweller.
