List of convicts embarked on "Prince Regent" for Port Macquarie. William Wakelan, age 26, per Larkins, Seaman, Tried at Bury St Eds. 27 Mar 1817, Life. This list was followed by a letter, which was crossed out, saying that these men had volunteered their services on this occasion, and were to be allowed the same rations and indulgences with those already at the settlement of Port Macquarie. Suffolk Lent Assizes. … William Wakeling, for stealing a wether sheep, the property of Thos. Kingsbury, of Sudbury ; ... Before the Judge (Baron Graham) left the town, they were all reprieved, except S. Rayner, who was left for execution. Bury and Norwich Post, 9 April 1817.  Wm. …. and Rich. Fluid, for stealing, in the night, or early in the morning of the ? of January, one wether sheep, the property of Thomas Kingsbury; Fluid was admitted evidence; and Wakeling was sentenced to death, but reprieved. Suffolk Chronicle, 5 April 1817.  William Wakeling, a convict in our Gaol, escaped therefrom on Tuesday last, but after a vigilant pursuit, he was apprehended the next day at a cottage in Bramford, near Ipswich, in the act of filing off his irons.  Wakeling 's character is said to be notorious, and that he has twice escaped from Chelmsford Gaol. Bury and Norwich Post, 30 April 1817.
