Mary WALL or WARD was convicted at Nether Knutsford, Chester, England on 19 May 1851 for Larceny - stealing boots and a shawl. Previous offence. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Sir Robert Seppings' arriving 8 July 1852. Ship Surgeon's Report: "good". Housemaid; aged 21yrs; 5'4"; single woman; sallow complexion; black hair; grey eyes; Roman Catholic. Native Place - Galway, Ireland. Uncle - Michael Assigned to work services, in Hobart. 20 Feb 1854 Application for Permission to marry - to Albert SMART (trans per 'Fairlie'). Approved. 3 Apr 1854 Marriage: Mary WALL, aged 22yrs, spinster to Albert SMART, aged 27yrs; a brassfounder, bachelor. At St. George's Church of England, Hobart. (Ref. 37/1/13 no. 332). Child: Walter SMART b. 21 Jan 1856 Hobart district. (Ref. 33/1/6 no. 920) Ticket of Leave approved 3 Oct 1854 Conditional Pardon granted 17 June 1856
