Convict Notes
At Enniskillen Assizes, Margaret Wallace, found guilty before Judge Jebb of the murder of her illegitimate infant, was sentenced to death. Tipperary Free Press, 31 March 1830 As the Court was about to adjourn this day, the foreman of the jury who tried Margaret Wallace for the murder of her infant child, addressed the Judge, and begged to recommend her to his merciful. He stated that since they had returned their verdict, two of his brother jurors mentioned that they had known her to be a woman of weak mind, but that they had forget to state the circumstance until the verdict had been returned. His Lordship said that it would be necessary to commit the recommendation to writing in the way of a memorial, and to have it signed, and that he should attend to it. This being done, his Lordship forwarded it to the Lord Lieutenant and the reprieve has since arrived for the woman. Enniskillen Chronicle, 25 March 1830.
