The following case may refer to this Patrick Walsh. Patrick Walsh, Edmond M'Grath, and James Byrne, three notorious young thieves, were committed a few days ago to the City jail, charged with robberies in the houses of Mr. Abernethy, Patrick-street. one of the Chief Constables of the city, and Mr. Neill, Hemler, Peter-street, The circumstance which led to the discovery of those young candidates for the gallons, is rather extraordinary. Part of the goods taken from Mr. Abemethy was wearing apparel, with which ball of cotton thread became entangled ; the robbers decamped with their booty, taking with them the end of the thread but leaving the ball behind. Mr. Abernethy, after his return from patrol about one o'clock at night, discovered that his house was robbed, and having examination, perceived the cotton thread trailed along the ground, he raised the ball, and followed the line of march pointed out by the thread, which led him into one of those dens of iniquity in Murphy’s lane, where he found the stolen property, and the three youths regaling themselves with whiskey. They were immediately conveyed to the tower, and from thence, next morning, to the gaol. Waterford Mail, 21 April 1832.
