SAMUEL BARNETT , HENRY COPAS , and HARRY WARD , were indicted for stealing, on the 23d of July , at St. Martin, Ironmonger-lane , a table clock, value 25 l., the goods of Edward Watson , in his dwelling-house . ... ... BARNETT'S Defence. I know nothing of the robbery. COPAS' Defence. I was at work at the time - I am a bricklayer , and what that woman has sworn is as false as God Almighty is true. The Lord Mayor asked her on our first examination, and she said she knew neither of them. WARD'S Defence. As I was going down Whitechapel-road Mr. Lea met me, and told me he wanted me for a crime that he knew I was innocent of. I went to Lambeth-street, and when I had been there about an hour and a half, Mr. Watson and that woman, who looked through the window came, and they neither of them said they knew me; and after the woman had been there half an hour she said she thought I was the person. JURY to KINGSBURY. Q. Did you know the persons of the prisoners before that morning? A. Yes, perfectly well. Barnett and the one not in custody had the clock, but Copas had nothing; they were all four there, but on different sides of the way. BARNETT - GUILTY - DEATH . Aged 22. COPAS - GUILTY - DEATH .
