This is the earlier case when Joseph was acquitted. Committed to our Gaol. — David Bugg, Abraham Bacon, Joseph Ratliffe, and Joseph Ward, (by the Rev. C. Cooke) charged with burglariously entering the dwelling-house of William Teverson, of Layham, and stealing a quantity of pickled pork, some butler, and a bill-hook, his property. Bury and Norwich Post, 26 Feb 1823. David Bugg, aged ?, Abraham Bacon, aged ?, and Joseph Ratcliffe, aged ?, were convicted burglary in the house of Teverson, of Layham, and received sentence of death. Joseph Ward, an accomplice, was admitted King's evidence, and severely admonished. Norwich Mercury, 5 April 1823.




Bury Division did not terminate till Wednesday noon, when the following prisoners were tried and sentenced as follows : — ... Joseph Ward, for stealing from off the cart of John Smith, common-carrier, of Lavenham, a box containing wearing apparel, tbe property of John Grimwood, of Willisham; and ... to be transported for 7 years.
