Mary Ann WARD was convicted at Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England on 1 April 1846 for stealing a jacket. 7yr transportation sentence. Gaol Report: convicted before, upward of 50 times - principally for idle and disorderly conduct. Conduct good in prison. Ship Surgeon's Report - bad & violent, punished several times for misconduct. Aged 25yrs; single woman; nurse maid; 5'2"; dark complexion; brown hair; blue eyes; Roman Catholic. Native place - Boston, Lincolnshire, England. Father - Thomas Mother - Mary 6mth Probation Period in Colony of VDL. 13 Mar 1847: Gross insolence. 14 days solitary confinement. His Excellency directed that this woman be deprived of her pass and be sent to the Female Factory, Launceston for 6 months and her conduct specially reported. 9 Oct 1853:Died, at the Lunatic Asylum, New Norfolk, Tasmania.
