Inquests.— An inquest was held at Driver’s, the Three Tons, Castlereagh-street, on Monday, on view of the body of Patrick Ward, a prisoner serving a sentence at Cockatoo Island, at which place he had suddenly expired on the preceeding day. From the evidence of a prisoner who was at the island, it appeared that the deceased, after kneading up some dough for a damper, laid his head upon the table, and gave two or three groans, on which he went up to him, and seeing him excessively ill, ran for the dispenser, but before his arrival Ward was dead. It also appeared that the deceased had, on the previous evening, complained of a pain in the chest, and on the Sunday morning he added that it had reached his heart. Dr. Silver certified that death had been produced by natural causes, and the jury returned a finding of “death by the visitation of God.”
