He was buried at Devonshire St Cemetery in the family grave owned by a Louisa Watkins. When Devonshire St Cemetery was relocated the headstone went to the Sandhills Cemetery at Bunnerong (ref Sainty and Johnson book) however the remains were relocated and re-interred in the Anglican Cemetery at Rookwood!




Robert Ward was 23 years old when transported for ‘Theft’. His occupation was a ‘Plumber/Baker'. Robert is not listed on the NSW convict records, so no date of TOL or CP found. Colonial Secretary Papers: WARD, Robert. Per "Mangles", 1820 1821 Jan 27 On list of prisoners transported to Newcastle per "Lady Nelson" (Reel 6007; 4/3503 p.71) 1823 Mar 31:Former prisoner at Newcastle; forwarded from Sydney. On list of prisoners transported to Newcastle and not in returns (Reel 6068; 4/1811 p.120) 1824 Oct 30: Stowaway and runaway; to be sent to Port Macquarie. On return of fines and punishments in the Police Office (Reel 6023; 4/6671 p.98) 1824 Nov 13: On list of convicts transported to Port Macquarie per "Sally" (Reel 6019; 4/3864 pp.494-5) 14/10/1824 Sydney Gazette: Robert Ward, Mangles 1, 27, Edinburgh, 5 feet 10 and a half inches, hazle eyes, brown hair, sallow complexion, (absconded from) Hyde Park Barracks. 27/9/1836: Married Jane Brown (Jane was Born in the Colony 16/5/1815 – Died 1/3/1866 at Champion Hill, Eden NSW). They had 5 children. 29/7/1846: Robert died at Bridge Street, Sydney, aged 50. Jane Ward then married Henry Kesterton (1809 London-17/5/1886 Bombala NSW) – they had 4 children.
