APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO MARRY: 23 Jan 1854 - Daniel WARE (free, by servitude) to Sarah NEE (per 'Blackfriar'). Approved. (ref. 52/1/7 pg 522) Note: variances in the spelling of wife Sarah's surname. MARRIAGE: 20 Feb 1854 - Daniel WERE, potter, free, aged 27yrs to Sarah NEY, aged 22 yrs, passholder, spinster. At St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Launceston. (ref. 37/1/13 no. 1007) CHILDREN: 3 March 1854 - Sarah WARE and John WARE born at Launceston. Father - Daniel WARE, potter. Mother - Sarah WARE (formerly NAINE). Residence - Paterson St. Launceston. (ref. 33/1/32 no.483 & 484) 11 May 1856: female child WARE, born at Launceston. Father - Daniel WARE. Mother - Sarah WARE (formerly NEAN). (ref. 33/1/34 no. 704) 14 Aug 1858: female child WARE, born at Launceston. Father - Daniel WARE, labourer. Mother - Sarah WARE (formerly KNELLING) (ref. 33/1/36 no. 1119) DEATH: 26 May 1866 - Daniel WARE, aged 44 yrs, labourer. Cause - inflamation. Information - wife Sarah. (ref. 35/1/35 no. 74)

Daniel WARE was convicted at Stafford, England on 26 Dec 1843 for burglary - entering a shop and stealing tea and sugar, 12 mths prior. 10 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the 'Agincourt' arriving there 1844. Aged 21yrs; single man; a potter; 5'5 1/2" height; fair complexion; light hair; grey eyes; not literate; Church of England. Native place of birth: Stafford, England (ref. Convict record) Mother: Mary Brothers: John, William Sisters: Mary, Jane, Ann & Martha Colony of VDL: Stationed at Norfolk Island (off the east coast of New South Wales but administered by VDL), 1844. Transferred to Hobart, VDL, prior to 1849. Several records of misconduct. 13 May 1851: Ticket of Leave granted. 31 Dec 1853: Certificate of Freedom issued, at Launceston, VDL. Further conviction, in the Colony: Daniel WARE/WEARE 10 July 1854, at Launceston. Stealing a bucket and other articles. 18 mths imprisonment. To be sent to Port Arthur Penal Settlement. 31 and a half days remitted. 29 June 1855: Discharged, to Freedom.
