APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO MARRY: 30 June 1847 - George WARE (per 'Lady Raffles') to Margaret WOODHEAD (free/free by servitude). Approved. Note: Margaret KELSO married William WOODHEAD (transported per 'Layton') in 1841. William died 20 Nov 1845 due to inflamation of the lungs, at Hobart. Margaret had been transported as a convict per the 'Mary' in 1831. MARRIAGE: 5 Nov 1847 - George WARE, aged 33 yrs, carpenter, Ticket of Leave status to Margaret WOODHEAD, aged 33 yrs, widow, free. At St. Mathew's Church of England, Clarence Plains (eastern shore of River Derwent, nr Hobart). (ref. 37/1/6 no. 642) CHILDREN: 4 Oct 1853 - George Frederick WARE born at Clarence. Father - George WARE, a carpenter. Mother - Margaret WARE (formerly KELSOE). Residence - Muddy Plains. (ref. 33/1/31 no. 176) Wife Margaret went on to live to be 70 yrs of age. Death registration 1 June 1880, at Muddy Plains, Ralph's Bay. Cancer of the stomach. (ref. 35/1/49 no. 692) George WARE himself lived to be 85 yrs, a farmer. George WARE was convicted at Sussex, England on 16 March 1840 for two felony charges of housebreaking and stealing. Previous convictions and imprisonment. 15 yr transportation sentence. Hulk Report: "good". Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Lady Raffles' arriving there 17 March 1841. Ship surgeon's report: "good". Married man, wife Harriet, at native place. 3 children. Aged 28 yrs; farm labourer; 5'10 1/2" height; dk brown hair; blue eyes; tatoos. Native place of birth: Buckstead Mother: Ann Lewes Sisters: Mary Hastings, Eliza (Houder/Houden/Jorden) Brothers: Frank & Tom (ref. for above inf., as recorded upon arrival in Colony) Colony of VDL: 2 yrs Probation Period. Extended by 2 months in 1842. First Station Gang: Prison Barracks 1842: Privately making a box for a Constable. Probation period extended 2 mths. 25 May 1847: Ticket of Leave granted. 27 Nov 1849: Conditional Pardon approved.
