Historian Vincent O'Malley claims Te Waretiti was s hanged for ‘rebellion’ at Paremata barracks (near Porirua) in September 1846. Therefore not among the transported men. See historical Report on Hamilton Street and city names pge 14

The transportation of the Maori captives had been questioned by the Hobart press when the prisoners first arrived, and opposition to the punishment increased with Te Umuroa’s death. The four remaining prisoners were released and returned to Auckland in March 1848.
