Monmouth Assizes. At these Assizes there were only four law cases entered, which were decided before before one o'clock on Monday, and the business of the Crown bar was over early Tuesday sc'nnight, leaving leaving the Judges and Barristers to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the neighbourhood. The sentences the prisoners were as follows: James Hill, for stealing cow, the property of Mr. J. S. Edwards, of Horn Lacy, Herefordshire, received sentence of Death; Richard Worgan, for stealing a bell-metal pot and a quantity of pewter, the property of Wm. Church and Thomas Lewis, of Chepstow; Wm. Webber, for stealing several several articles of wearing apparel, a watch, two sovereigns, and half a sovereign, the property of S. Meredith, of Tidenham, Glocestershire; and Sarah Waters, for stealing two yards cloth, a gold ring, &c. the property of James Bigglestone, of Abergavenny, were sentenced to seven transportation. Hereford Journal, 17 Aug 1831.
