Convict Notes
John Walthern gave evidence in a case of Cattle stealing at Bathurst , in 1848, the case is reported in the Bathurst Advocate, 26 Feb 1848. “to render the compact complete, a blacksmith named John Wathern was called in to draw out an agreement ; he is .76 years of age, and as might be expected made a complication doubly complicated ; he stated, however, that he saw the prisoner sign the paper, which was produced in court, and the prosecutor hand prisoner some bank notes, but what amount; he could not say.”
