James Watson was transported on the Ann Or Anne, departing 31st Jul 1809 and arriving 27th Feb 1810 with 200 passengers.
1800/1810 Journey Ship Anne, Captain James Stewart. Left Cork 26 June 1800 with 147 men and 24 women. There was a mutiny on board on the 29th July 1800, but the ship’s company overcame the insurgents. The ringleader, Marcus Sheehy, confessed his guilt, and was immediately executed on board in the presence of all the convicts. Another convict, the leader on deck, Christopher Grogan, was sentenced to 250 lashes. The ship arrived at Port Jackson, New South Wales on 21 February 1801. To Major Goulburn, Secretary. 10 Aug 1823. Sir, A memorial was given unto your office about eighteen months ago, respecting a boy of the name of William Carolyn, a native of Dublin City, born Jan 7 1814, and was placed in the Foundling Hospital of the said City on the 20th Day of the said month and year. The said boy’s mother was convicted from the said City Gaol to this Colony by the name of Ann Byrne, but the boy taken his name from the Father, which was Carolin or Carlin, and the said Ann Byrne was married in this Colony to a man named James Watson, who resides in the town of Richmond, and hearing that a boy about the age of the aforesaid boy has arrive d n the Ship The Recovery of London, Capt Fotherly, the said mother of the boy, and her husband flatter themselves that this is the child they have for some months been expecting, and beg, that if it is the case, you would be pleased to give the bearer of this letter (whose name is John Bullock) an order to receive the said boy, into his charge, and he (the bearer) will convey the said boy, to his parents at Richmond. ~I remain sir, … James Watson. York Lent Assizes, 1808. CASTLE. On Saturday the business at the Castle closed at the Crown End, when the following prisoners, who had been capitally convicted, received sentence of death, viz. ...
