THE JOHN WATSON LISTED ABOVE ARE FOR THE JOHN WATSON WHO WAS ON THE CAPTAIN COOK WHICH ARRIVED 2/4/1832** This John Watson died on the voyage: Old Bailey: JOHN WATSON, Theft > simple larceny, 16th February 1832. Offence: Theft > simple larceny Verdict: Guilty Punishment: Transportation JOHN WATSON was indicted for stealing, on the 28th of January, 3 candlesticks, value 2s. 6d., the goods of John Robert Green ; and that he had been before convicted of felony. JOHN MARRS. I am servant to John Robert Green, who keeps the Bull's Head, Peter-street. The prisoner came in on the 28th of January, in the afternoon; I was in the yard - he opened the kitchen door, looked in, pulled the door a little too, and looked round to see if he was watched -I saw him take some candlesticks, which he found were too big to put into his basket; he put them down, took three small ones, and went out with them in his basket, into the yard, from the tap-room - I went and told Mr. Green, who came; he shoved Mr. Green down, and ran away - I ran after him, and secured him not far off; he had left the basket behind, with the candlesticks in it.(Property produced and sworn to.) ROBERT TAYLOR. I am a Policeman. I have a certificate of the prisoner's former conviction, which I got from Mr. Clark's office - (read.) - I was present at the trial, and am certain he is the man. GUILTY. Aged 41. - Transported for Seven Years. Sick list of the "Captain Cook 1833": Folio 3: case no 31, John Watson, aged 42, prisoner; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, phthisis; put on sick list 25 May 1833, died 25 June 1833.

SECOND CONVICTION: John Watson was transported to NSW on the 'Captain Cook'in 1832. "Staid with Mr. Blaxland for 11yrs then returned to Middlex, England in 1842 with 200 pounds". Convicted a second time at Wicklow on 26/02/1844 for stealing clothes. 7 yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemens Land on the 'Cadet' 1844. 1844: Convict no. 73984 VDL. 5'5"; 50yrs of age; reads; married, 3 children; Protestant; labourer. Wife - Mary Brother - Harry, at Cork Sister - Ann, at Dublin Station Gang: Impression Bay, VDL. Died at Impression Bay 09/07/1848.
