John Watson was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 13th Jul 1829 and arriving 14th Dec 1829 with 200 passengers.

Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

9/5/1829 Lancaster Gazette Lancashire, England: QUARTER SESSIONS John Watson, 18, charged with stealing at Blackburn, on watch and one half crown, the property of James Price.__14 yrs. trans. John Watson was listed as 19 years old on arrival in VDL - his native place was Blackburn. Occupations: Weaver and Labourer. John was 5'6¾" tall, brown hair, dark brown eyes, single, J W. inside rt. arm- Scar on Knuckle of thumb left hand. 1830 Muster: Assigned to Mr. Pybus 1832-33 Musters: Assigned to Messrs Ruffey 1835 Muster: Assigned to Mr J Bayley. 2/4/1838: Had TOL - was in Campbell Town. Conduct Record goes up to 1840 - Mostly drunk and losing his TOL.
