Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. Family connections for Eliza (Watt) are: WATT Eliza Ann (Watt), daughter of Samuel (Watt) & Anne (???) & apparantly sister of Robert, was born about 1826 at Belfast Antrim county Ireland & became a childs maid. She arrived in NSW as a convict on (18 8) 1840 after a voyage of 3.5months on MARGARET & in Bathurst about the same year. She had married firstly (1of3) Patrick (Ryan apparantly no relation to Cornelius). She married thirdly Thomas (Baker) on 29 3 1876 at Bathurst. Some details taken from this Website] Patrick (Ryan) was apparantly no relation of Cornelius (Ryan) mentioned just below; however, 2Patrick (Ryan)s with similar offending history have entries on the same ship on this Website: A.Patrick (Ryan) was born about 1800, perhaps in Tipperary Ireland, & became a general labourer. He was was sentenced w/8others (including a Martin (Ryan) at Nenagh Quarter Sessions Tipperary about February 1839 to 7years for grievous assault & arrived in NSW as a convict on 17 6 1839 after a voyage of 4months on WAVERLEY; he was Catholic ..[These details taken from this Website] ..[Martin (Ryan) was born about 1814, perhaps in Tipperary Ireland, & became a general labourer. He arrived in Bathurst about 1840 & became a settler farmer. He was issued his Ticket of Leave no.43/1655 on 30 6 1843 for Liverpool District, which was endorsed to Mudgee on 20 7 1843. He was issued his Certificate of Freedom no.45/1436 on 13 11 1845. He continued his bad behaviour, was convicted many times & spent time in Bathurst Gaol. He died on 27 2 1877 age about61 scrotal gangrene at Triangle Creek father of 7children & was buried in the middle of a paddock at Arkell Long Swamp.
