Convicted at age 28yrs 19 Oct 1840 - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England George and Sarah WETHERALL for “feloniously stealing, on the 10th of September, at Oxton, a silk handkerchief, 2 shawls, 2 pair of stockings, 1 flannel petticoat, 1 shirt, 1 table cloth, gold pin, ... the property of Francis Burton, retail beer seller” De facto Bef. 1840 perhaps George and Sarah Spriggs (Arrived the barque Rajah),were in a de facto relationship, which is why they had the same surname at the trial Departure at age 29yrs 22 Mar 1842 - Woolwich, Kent, England “The hired convict ship, Eden, is at present moored off the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, to take on board convicts as far Van Dieman's Land.” — any London newspaper Arrival 5 Jul 1842 - Hobart, Tasmania, Australia “July 5.—Barque Eden, 522 tons, Jones, master, from Woolwich, 22nd March, with 275 male convicts. Dr. NeiI, Surgeon Superintendent. Guard, Lieutenant Gowsun 99th Regt., and 29 rank and file, 4 women and 3 children.” GLENORCHY--On the 15th instant, a warrant for the arrest of George Weatherall, or Weatherell, charged with being on the enclosed premises of Messrs. John and Thomas Hallam, at Glenorchy, on the 12th instant, for an unlawful purpose. Description--50 years old, 5 feet 4 1/2 inches high, greyish hair, F.S.R.G.W. on left arm, an Englishman, per Eden 2 ; has recently completed a sentence of three months received at Hamilton for larceny.
