Commitments to our County Gaol. Anthony Webb, on suspicion of stealing three lambs, the property of Barton Briaris. Oxford University and City Herald, 26 May 1827 SHEEP STEALING, Anthony Webb, the elder, and his two sons, Anthony and William - stood indicted for stealing, in the parish of Rawford, three lambs, the property of Barton Briars.—The Jury found them all guilty. Mr. Justice LITTLEDALE declined passing sentence, as their case, he said, would require consideration. . London Courier, 28 July 1827. (and Sun, 28 July 1827) Anthony Webb, the elder, and his two sons, Anthony and William, stood indicted for stealing, in the parish of Rawford, three lambs, the property of Mr. Briaris. The elder prisoner is a small farmer, living about four miles from the place when the lambs were stoles, and. his sons were with him. On the day after the lambs were missed. suspicion from some cause, was excited against him, and his house searched. In a cupboard on the ground floor, the carcase. of two lambs, and several joints of a third, were found, and under a bed up stairs, the skins of some lambs  were discovered concealed. The skins were positively identified by the prosecutor's son, and two of them were proved by a butcher who had accurately tried them, to be the skins belonging to the carcases found down stairs. The two younger prisoners were seen on the night of the robbery going in the direction of the prosecutor's field. Verdict—Guilty. Sentence deferred. Star, 28 July 1827.
