Convict Notes
In November 1844, Robert Kerr, Ann Webster and Janet Ross or Jardine were convicted at the High Court of Justiciary of assault & robbery - having on 10 July 1844 in a house at Halkerston Wynd kept by Webster & Jardine, assaulted Alexander Fraser, Overseer of scavengers, to 'effusion of blood' and robbing him of 16/3d. The Lord Justice Clerk was critical of Police who failed to conduct a search of houses to recover the money'. The three accused received transportation for 14 years - but there no Convict Record for Robert Kerr, so he may have deceased. Webster and Jardine were transported together. - see Scotsman nespaper 9 November 1844 p 3 on 'High Court of Justiciary'.
