When Edmund Welch was born on 25 December 1826 in Weedon Lois, Northamptonshire, his father, Jonas, was 39 and his mother, Sophie, was 36. Edmund's Mother died when he was just 10yo which would have created enormous family hardship. At the age of 14 he was convicted of stealing a brooch (which he denied) and sentenced to transportation to Van Diemens land for 15years Hard Labour. His sentence was commuted to 7 years. He arrived in 1843 on the 'Elphingstone'. He was listed as working as a miner in Lauriston Vic in . He married Hanorah HENNESSY in 1858. They had ten children in 16 years. He died on 10 February 1909 in Lauriston, Victoria, having lived a long life of 82 years. Both his sons William and Robert died in the same year.




Edmund died in Malmsbury Victoria. He married Anorah Hennessy. Edmund and Anorah had 10 children.
