All three Robert Welch records are for Robert Welch who arrived on the Royal Sovereign 9/1/1838.
Some of the information Carol has put on here is wrong,Robert arrived in Australia 9/1/1838.And the records she mentions for the three Robert Welch`s are all for the same Robert Welch ( Robert Throckmorton ).
N.B. There are 3 Robert Welch's recorded as convicts in the Tasmanian Archives. Robert Welch was convicted at Liverpool, England on 24 Oct 1836 for stealing a watch, handkerchief and money. 14 yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Royal Sovereign', arriving 8/1/1839. Single man; 5'4"(or 5'2 1/2"); aged 19yrs; Blacksmith's labourer; native place of birth: Liverpool, England; grey eyes; dk brown hair; sallow complexion; 1844 at Campbell Town (Tasmania) 1845 at Swansea (east coast Tasmania) Ticket of Leave 10/02/1844 (ref. Conduct Book & Colonial Times 20 Feb 1844 newspaper: "CONVICT DEPARTMENT. Comptroller-General's Office, 14th Feb., 1844. The Lieutenant-Govcrnor has been pleased to grant Tickets-of-Leave to the under-mentioned Convicts :— Robert Welch, Royal Sovereign." Recommended for a Conditional Pardon in the Australian Colony 21/10/1845.
Hi, I have recently found a 1855 prison record for Robert Throckmorton my great grandfather x3. In the prison record in previous history it mentions that Robert Throckmorton was transported to Australia on the Royal Sovereign in 1837 arriving in 1838 under the name Robert Welsh ( Welch )
