Convict Notes

Hampshire Advertiser Hampshire, England 31 Jul 1830 HANTS SUMMER ASSIZES CROWN SIDE. Thomas Welch, aged 62, was put to the bar upon a charGe of having, on the 25th of February last, assaulted and carnally known, against her will, Mary Ryder. The Prosecutrix is about 13 years old, and is the daughter of the prisoner's present wife. The charge was very distinctly proved by the girl, but it appeared in addition, that the monster had previously committed the same offence upon the same child "more times that she could tell," extending over a period of more than a year, and commencing before she was 13 years old. Folio 6: case no 86, Thomas Welsh, aged 68, prisoner; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, dysentery; put on sick list 14 August 1833, died 24 August 1833.
